De Great Glen Way volgt de totale lengte (114 km) van de Great Glen, het meest indrukwekkende geologische verschijnsel in Schotland. Formed by a massive glacier during the last ice age, the Great Glen dramatically dissects the Scottish Highlands from the Atlantic Ocean to the Moray Firth. The Great Glen Way goes through some of Scotland's most spectacular scenery, passing many of Scotland's finest mountains, and running alongside the deep clear waters of four lochs, including Loch Ness, before finishing at Inverness, the capital of the Highlands. The walk itself is not specially arduous, with several low level sections and no difficult climbs.
